Director

Ali Akbar is professor of epidemiology at Kerman University of Medical Sciences (KMU). He holds a diploma and doctorate of philosophy in epidemiology and bio-statistics from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has several years of research experience in infectious disease epidemiology, medical education, public health, cost effectiveness, and modeling analysis. Ali Akbar has also contributed/provided consultations in many mutual projects with Iran’s ministry of health and medical education (MoHME) and WHO in Middle East and North Africa region. He is currently the chancellor of Kerman University of Medical Sciences, and head of Regional Knowledge Hub, and WHO Collaborating Centre for HIV Surveillance.

  • Hamid Sharifi PhD

Chief Operating Manager

Hamid is assistant professor of Epidemiology, School of Public health, Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Iran. He has received his PhD in Epidemiology from University of Tehran. He has also spent six months working on survival analysis methods at department of Epidemiology, University of Thessaly, Greece. Hamid’s research interests are HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology of infectious disease, clinical and field epidemiology, survival Analysis, systematic review and meta-analysis. He has been the chief editor of the epidemiology of prevalent diseases in Iran (3 volumes). Hamid is an expert in statistical analysis and has managed to publish over 60 journal articles.

  • Ehsan Mostafavi PhD

Finance and Administration Manager

Ehsan is assistant professor of Epidemiology at Pasteur Institute of Iran. He holds a DVM degree from University of Shiraz and has received his PhD in Epidemiology from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. His research mainly focuses on infectious diseases (Zoonosis in particular), Disease Modeling and HIV surveillance systems. Ehsan is a member of international and national association of Epidemiology, Iranian Public health association and Iranian specialist association.

  • Ali Mirzazadeh MD, MPH, PhD

Education & Training Manager, Senior Research Specialist

Ali is a physician, infectious disease epidemiologist with specialty in biostatistics, and research specialist at UCSF. Ali is an expert in statistical analysis and associated methods of psychometric validation. He has many publications (over 45 articles and 5 books), awards and grants on methods of statistical analysis, HIV prevention and treatment, as well as other health conditions (e.g., STI, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases). His recent research and projects focus on spatial movement and social interaction of people who inject drug in San Francisco, estimating the population size of PWID, MSM and FSW in Georgia, developing methods to measure internal/external validity of HIV prevention studies and new methods in sampling hard to reach populations. He has also contributed to the development of several HIV/AIDS Bio-Behavioral Surveillance and Population Size Estimation training materials funded by WHO, CDC and UNAIDS.

  • Mohammad Karamouzian DVM, MSc

Scientific Writing Manager

Mohammad is an infectious disease epidemiologist with a passion for improving the health of vulnerable populations. He is currently a researcher at the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV in Canada. He is mainly interested in the epidemiology of HIV/STIs among key populations at risk of HIV. Since 2011, he has been working in HIVHUB as a research associate on several projects regarding the bio-behavioral aspects of HIV/STIs among female sex workers, people who inject drugs, partners of people who inject drugs, as well as young men and women in the general Iranian population. Mohammad is currently leading the scientific writing initiative at HIVHUB and oversees the peer-reviewed publications of HIVHUB.
